I started playing the piano at the age of eight, and flute at the age of 10. For high school, I was fortunate to attend the Langley Fine Arts School in Fort Langley, BC, where I was able to major in music while completing my academic studies. After high school, I attended Capilano College in North Vancouver, BC, where I completed an associates diploma in music with a double major on piano and flute. In 2000, I completed my Bachelor of Music degree with distinction from the University of Lethbridge. Over the years, I have also completed my Royal Conservatory Grade 10 exams with first class honors on both piano and flute, along with the theory requirements. I am also a Registered Music Teacher (RMT) with the Alberta Registered Music Teachers Association.
I first realized I wanted to teach music lessons at the age of thirteen, when I used to “teach” my friends little songs on our piano. When I was seventeen, I started teaching neighborhood children, and continued teaching on and off throughout college and university. After university I taught at the Academy of Music and Dance in Surrey, BC, where I remained until re-locating to Calgary in 2005. Now I have the opportunity to fulfill my dream of teaching out of my own home music studio.
One of my biggest belief’s is that early exposure to music is incredibly beneficial well into adulthood. My interest in early childhood music started when I had my son. One of my greatest areas of interest has been studying early childhood music education and I strive to offer group classes that are fun, exciting and cover all of the basic elements of music to give preschoolers a great start on their musical journey. Most of all, my goal is to create a love of music in each young child.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Michael and our five year old son, Bradan. Along with my family and music, my other great love in life is animals. We share our home with our ragdoll cat, Zoe, and our two small dogs Zorro and Maggie.
